Bavarian apple torte Save to MyRecipes

Postby Lorraine on Mon Jul 19, 2004 9:50 pm

Well Billy, I really didn't want to post this after Jean's great recipe, but here it is. It is similar to a cheesecake, but has a very thin filling.
Crust
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
Cream butter and sugar in food processor, add vanilla, add flour and process just until it comes to a ball. Place in 8 inch springform pan, patting the dough to about 1 inch up the sides.
Filling
8 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
Proicess the cream cheese and sugar together until smooth. Add the agg and vanilla and process until smooth. Pour into shell.
Topping
Peel, and core 3 Granny Smith apples. Slice 1/3 inch thick. Llay in concentric circles over torte. Make a mixture of sugar, cinnamon and fresh nutmeg, and sprinke over. Or you can use maple sugar if you have it.
Bake in a preheated 450 oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 and bake for an additional 20 minutes. I have a hot oven, so I do it at 425 and 375.
Let cool, dust with icing sugar, and that's it.
Practice safe lunch. Use a condiment.

Kool Lorraine. I was hoping you would do this soon. Now all I need from you, at the moment, is the ham hocks brining recipe. I'm sure there will be other things. By-the-by, I have some cherry brandy in the making.
I also have to get me a torte pan!
God must love stupid people because He certainly made a lot of them..Abe Lincoln
