Australia: My Restaurant Rules Save to MyRecipes

Postby javabar on Fri Feb 11, 2005 2:07 am

anyone down here watching the second season?

there were quite a few eyebrows raised when it was announced that host curtis stone would be replaced by ian 'dicko' dickson, the simon cowell of australian idol. but I gotta say, dicko's a good choice and certainly brings more tension and drama to the show.

for those up north, mrr is a competition where five couples go thru the paces of opening and running their own restaurant. the audience votes them out of business (off the island, so the speak) until one remains and is allowed to continue trading.

I'm not a fan of reality tv, but this is a great concept. any similar shows elsewhere?

I loved it, this year there is a mother and son team. And I had to laugh when in one of the mags they did a "know the most about each other quiz", and the mother and son got the highest score.

sad to say, I think the mom-n-son team will be the first to go - unless they garner the sympathy vote, which is what put last year's perth couple over the line.

mom had a meltdown in the kitchen in the 2nd ep last night. mind you, they took five people - one from each team, only two of whom had ever stepped foot in a pro kitchen - and made them do a sitting of 80. talk about being thrown to the lions.

What an interesting concept for a show. I'd love to see it. Maybe it will be shown here during the summer on one of our offbeat channels.

ep three just aired here. they're certainly being much tougher on this year's models than last year's, which is making for better tv (read: ratings).

still, the judges are tough but fair, and it's not unlike any 'real' businessperson would go about setting up a restaurant.

one touch I like is they're doing open cattle calls for all staff (foh, sous, maitre d, dishies, etc) in each capitol city this monday.

The greedy goose??? I am sorry but is it a pub? because it sounds like a pub, if it is then a good name if not I personally dont like. I love the sound of "mint leaf" and also "pink salt" although pink salt a little girlie for a restaurant name.
So I am starting to think that first team out might be the Mum and Son team. Oh I wish I could actually watch these and not have to read them.

it's hard to say, after all in the 1st season the perth team were in the bottom two each week, yet still won by snagging the sympathy vote. who in their right mind would pitch a modoz restaurant based around fondues (correct plural? fondonts?) in this day n' age?

and the new perth mom-n-son team are doing what, meat-n-mango & other 80's stuff?

actually I think the melbourne team (the two dudes) will be first to leave the island. it seems clear they haven't a clue between them.

and matt moran, of all people loved the name 'greedy goose'. (for the northerners, matt's restuarant, aria, is adjacent to the sydney opera house).

without giving away too much, as this'll screen in nz (and hopefully o/seas) soon - they've thrown the proverbial spanner into the works, a la 'survivor' or 'big brother', invasion-style.

they've brought in a 6th couple - the guy is elle mcpherson's former personal chef.
