Trade Publications Save to MyRecipes

Postby lesanglierrouge on Wed Mar 07, 2007 7:20 pm

I'm getting a little tired of the Bon Appetits and the other consumer food publications. Just curious if you could recommend some periodicals oriented more toward a professional reader.

Thanks

Take a look at the yahoo link I'm posting, they have a whole slew of culinary mags online, and some pro ones, so you could do a quick survey and decide what suits you.

I used to like Food Arts.
But I wouldn't know anymore as I have signed up for it 5 times since returning to the US and still no dice.

I get Food Arts and Sante. I like both and heard about both through C2C members. I have yet to be lead too far astray by anyone her so I would have to guess they're pretty good. I know I enjoy them both.

What about the ACF Newsletter? A little high to pay member benefits though just to get a newsletter.

It seems you have to be an owner or an exec to sign up for Food Arts. I looked at their subscription ap on their website and it didn't look like I qualify.

I get the Baking Buyer digital and hardcopy version for information and product/equipment advertising rather than recipes.

Over the many years I have subscribed to Bon Apetit, Gourmet, Food Arts (don't care for it) Travel, Saveur, Cook's, Wine & Food, etc. I have a magazine collection boxed up for heaven-knows-why I keep them reasons.

Depends on what you want - information, recipes, technique.
Cook's is ok for technique but there are alot of copy cat mags out there just like it. Bon Ap and Gourmet are similar but I have found the recipes more successful in one of them over the other. I don't like magazines or websites that have recipes that are not 'tried and true'. The wine and travel mags are fun to look at and make you have wishful thoughts. I tried to learn about wine and get ideas about regional specialties but ha ha ha ha. If I have a wine question I ask one of the wine specialists here. If I want a regional dish - ask here.

I think just by logging on to C2C you will get it all. Learn how to search and just ask questions!

As I've said before - my absolute fave is Art Culinaire.

Wonderful food porn interspersed with great, simple, straightforward food writing. A terrific window into the high end dining scene and who's really who in that part of the business. Superior layout and top notch photography. Highly technical recipes not for the amature, but these are not the true focus of the magazine. Its all about the presentations and the innovations. Very inspiring. Your Gourmet's and Bon Appetit's only wish they could be this good. Expensive subscription, but worth the price.

Just throwing this out there; I get Food Arts( my fav freebie), Sante and Food Product Design. FPD is geared toward the manufacturing industry, but it really lets you "in" on things like e. coli outbreaks and flavor profile trends. I actually think it's a good read. Also retail food is quite possibly a future for me.........

Peace,
