Recipe Software Save to MyRecipes

Postby chefchristen on Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:08 pm

Hello all
I work for a Non-Profit agency that supports homeless youth. I am the chef there and am looking for a software program that will allow me to cost out my recipes. We don't have a large budget so I need something that's affordable. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

I am not a pro, but I do have a piece of software that the chefs here recommended that I love...MasterCook9. This software has many applications, one of which is a shopping list...this part of the program takes your recipe and makes a shopping list. If you have entered an approximate cost of basic items, it will pull these items and cost the recipe out. I am not sure exactly how this part of the program works, as I do not use it, but the company has a website. MasterCook 9.0 You may want to check it out. It was also VERY inexpensive.

Mastercook 9.0, as well as earlier versions, does "cost out" recipes, menus, and meal plans.

That being said, you DO have to input prices for the ingredients you use and, at first, that may appear a little tedious.

But, at $19.95 (sometimes as low as $9.95), it is a real good buy. It also lets you scale recipes, prepare menus and meal plans, and create shopping lists and has an excellent recipe search function.

I have used Now Your Cooking (NYC) http://www.ffts.com/ for years after trying just about every recipe and food reprogram out there. It cost more than Mastercook at $25.00 but is loaded with everything you could ask for in a recipe data base and is constantly upgraded. You can actually talk (through email) with the programmer.
