Consulting Firms Save to MyRecipes

Postby Justchef on Wed Apr 11, 2007 3:07 am

The company I work for is looking in to hiring a consulting firm. Vucurevich Simons Advisory Group or VSAG. Has anyone heard or worked with this firm?

Gawd how I love consulting firms. "Even though our own people know more about our business than anyone else on the planet, they work here. For $5,000 @ day I can get someone who knows something..."

Don't get me wrong, I AM a consultant. You know what I do? I listen to the people that work there, summarize it and play it back to management. But hey, they paid big bucks for it so it must be right, right?

Laughing all the way to the bank...

Sorry, someone let Joe Cynical out tonight.

Some definitions that I've run across:

Expert: "X" is the unknown factor and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

Consultant: one who is fifty miles from home and knows all the ways to lose money...by experience.

or

Consultant: one who listens to what you've done, lists the mistakes you've made and identifies why you should have made other decisions and then proceeds to offer alternatives that may, or may not, prove successfull.

or

Consultant: One who's only "stake" in the matter is their fee.

B.S.: knows a little bit about a lot of things.
M.S.: knows a little bit more about a lot less.
PhD.: knows a whole lot about very little.

Alternative:
B.S.: we all know what that means, don't we?
M.S.: more of the same.
PhD.: piled higher and deeper.

Remember, those that can, do.

Those that can't do, teach.

Those who can't teach, teach teachers.

Those that can't teach teachers, consult.

MBA - More Bloody Arrogance
Mushroom theory of management ...
Keep everyone in the Dark Pile up with BS and if they show any signs of growth ... cut off their heads
Consultants aka Seagulls ... come in make a lot of noise Crap on everyone and leave.

Unfortunately a lot pf people don't want to hear the truth (how come I keep hearing you can't stand the truth) ... Because most people are afraid that the answer they are going to get ISN'T the one they want........

Great example local REsto asked me to "consult" with them ....
they were a "breakfast & lunch" site - menu was about 12 pages long (could n't say what their big sellers were) "But we have duck on the menu" ... ok where is the Duck kept... in the freezer. Sooo how you going to cook it? - you have to thaw it first then cook it then .... (other diners will have had theirs drunk the coffee and ready to go)

But we have duck on the menu so we must be Hi (using US Spelling) Class...
Sort of like the wife of a former now disgraced exec who had a huge statue of David carved out of ice & Cocktails flowing out of his male anatomy 'cause its sooo klassy.

I've had good luck with SCORE, if you're a member of your local chamber of commerce , thats who they work through...and its free.

Google them.
