Molecular Gastronomy in Chicago, Besides Alinea? Save to MyRecipes

Postby ChefJoAnna on Thu May 17, 2007 3:25 am

a quickie:

wasn't there another restaurant that features molecular gastronomy in chicago, besides alinea?

i just discovered my friend is traveling there and in the very likely event that she doesn't get a reservation (!) i wanted to point her to the other restaurant... in case they had a couple seats open.

thanks very much,
joanna

Molecular Gastronomy in Chicago Save to MyRecipes

Moto is the closest thing to Alinea as far as concept though I have heard that Achatz (Alinea) has much better figured things out than Cantu (Moto), I cannot personally speak on it. She could also consider Tru. I staged there and was surprised by the MG approach as well as all the tweezer use involved there. All might be difficult to score a table at though. Tell her if she gets into Alinea not to use that MG term, chef isn't a fan of it!

Although interesting Moto has gotten very low marks for actual flavour. Even the favourable reviews note that taste does not seem to be the point of the place.

If she wants something other than pure novelty Moto probably isn't the place to go.

Interesting...Alinea chef not fond of his grub being called MG...
So if you're not fond of a cow, what do you call it, a goat?
