Hell's Kitchen.......tonight's episode Save to MyRecipes

Postby bohica on Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:21 am

Tonight pited the girls against the guys in a tasting contest. The winners would be wined and dined on Chef Ramsey.

The guys did pretty bad. One guy could not tell the flavor difference between Seared ahi tuna and pancetta.

The girls won the contest and were taken out to dinner by Chef.

The guys had to endure a food tasting of offal and other organ meats prepared different ways. Things like, pig's tongue, tripe, liver, brains, etc...

In the scene.... the waiter throws down a "barf Bag" and tells the chef's that it's for the weak ones.

Late on in the episode the girls and guys were cooking on a line, for a restaurant filled with guests who filled out critique forms.

It looked like Chef Ramsey was the expediter. Boy he had a lot of expletive adjectives for these chefs.

I had to laugh at the chef's comments.

One chef (an Executive Chef at 30 years old) commented that he'd never been so humiliated and p/oed before. PLEASE!!!

It seemd to me that these guys and girls with different food service abilities and experiences were put into a position they'd never been in before......that being working a line at a high end busy restaurant. One chef even cried.

I'm sure it was staged but I was still not convinced of the reality of this program and turned it off after giving it a good 45 minutes of my attention. Too much drama, and quite a bit of inconsistances. The chef's that were in the episodes had egos they should not have had. I got frustrated and embarassed for them and started to agree with Chef Ramsey........Me.....yeah........Me........Who Knew?

Bonnie, the one that cried this week, is the chef/nanny. She said she is used to cooking for four and it doesn't matter if things are not ready at a particular time.

Maybe next week no one will cry.

Endure? I thought this was a gourmet platter. I love pickled tongue, tripe, liver.... These were fine delicacies that appeared to be well prepared. I didn't understand the bags or chef Rock's reactions. It's not as if they served chitlins (chitterlings). Image

Yea, the cracks in the wall are starting to show with this program. I like ramsay(hes amusing) and his BBC shows, but this one is stating to reek of bad acting and just all around bad programming. The scene where the lady came up to the counter looking for her food and ramsay cursed her away was the same exact scene as last season. I dont know, not that im expecting integrity or anything and im SURE ill keep watching like the mindless idiot I am but I think there running out of tricks and the show is just gonna play itself out real soon. Oh well 2 more days till top chef!!!

That's my point exactly Mark. I see these "chefs" as self important, very young, ego inflated boobs. The one guy who sends out a rare beef wellington and has the nerve to tell chef it's medium, or the guy who sent out the food that is not cooked enough and the vegetables are still raw.

I have worked with people like this my whole career. It's one thing to cook an item and in your head you know it's not quite right. The chef is screaming, pans are flying, and because of the stress, it's another different thing to put out that item, knowing that it's not right, and hoping that know one will notice.......DUH!!!

This is where I take acception with the program.
This is where I get aggrevated with the programmers and idiots who direct the program. I suppose if all the plates went out perfectly and the dinner service went well, there'd be no show. Personally, I'd be happier with no program, then to show the viewing audience this demeaning and embarassing situation.

If this had been an actual restaurant, I would be embarrassed for the chef, as everything that happens falls on his reputation. Good thing it's only television. Image

I agree, if I was a legitimate customer in a legitimate restuarant, I would not be happy waiting for two hours for my food . . . only to be cursed at by the chef/owner when I registered a complaint. If he is supposedly evaluating/training these "wannabees" to be head chefs at a fancy restaurant, is that the treatment they should be expecting to hand out to the customers.

Show would be much more interesting with people that actually had more than a few years experience (or in the case of a nanny, no experience) on a line in a fast paced kitchen. Why would you place a pastry chef in this kitchen. Not that they couldn't do it, but how much experience does a pastry chef have preparing entrees. Then again, what business did she have trying out for it in the first place (include the nanny in this comment), and be surprised that they are out of their element.

Frankly, they're all acting like a bunch of waiters.

"Good thing it's only television"
And what percentage of TV viewers believe everything they see and consider it gospel...pretty high I'd guess and not good for the resto industry as it demeans the majority of people in it.
Ah..but those ratings!

I'm getting the staff together to do this taste test thing, just for fun. Frankly it'd be a lot tougher if they'd plug the nose too. If you've ever done that, you find out in a hurry how much your sniffer makes up what you percieve as flavor.

I think the nanny cheated on this one.

And what's with not being able to cook Wellingtons? Can't anyone keep an eye on a clock or use a thermometer or anything?

And I agree - the show is running out of gas. Although it is fun to watch Ramsey hyperventalate, it's getting real easy to see the contrived situations.

Get better qualified people like the cooks on Top Chef. Then it'd be okay, I think.

And I also agree with a HK contestant that Ramsey looks like a Sharpei when he starts to lose it. Makes me laugh.

I can't take another hour of "now what we're gonna do is we're gonna."
