Top 10 favorite movie dinner scenes Save to MyRecipes

Postby cheztom on Fri Jul 06, 2007 4:32 am

Here's my 10 favorite dinner table moments from the movies...

10. Babette's Feast - The climactic dinner in the film is a
study in quiet triumph.

9. Animal House - Food Fight!

8. The Goldrush - Charlie Chaplin enjoying the hell out of
an old boot.

7. Pulp Fiction - Hitman Vincent Vega (Travolta) having a
terribly sexy meal with Uma Thurman at
Jack Rabbit Slim's followed by one of
the iconic dance scenes in the movies.

6. Alien - John Hurt with a new twist on "Guess Who's
Coming to Dinner".

5.Blazing Saddles - Cowboys love beans, 'nuff said.

4. Tom Jones - Albert Finney and Joyce Redman make a meal
of each other.

3. Tampopo - Hoboes treat a young boy to a late night
supper of a rice omelette by breaking
into a resto kitchen, a yakuza shares an egg
with his mistress.

2. Little Miss Sunshine - 2 great dinner table scenes. The
first (and best) at the begining - Grandpa yelling about not wanting chicken and the daughter learns about suicide and homosexuality in one fell swoop. Like holiday dinner with my own family. Friend of mine actually walked out of this movie. Putz.

1.You Can't Take It With You - The nuttiest dinner scene
ever with possibly the craziest film family ever. The scene ends when the cops show up to arrest everyone for being "anarchists".

I cannot think of ten right now, but one scene from the Sopranos where Tony comes home late, and Carmila is pissed, as he missed a special dinner, and Tony replies

"thats why they make microwaves, for in-conciderate (sp) people like me!!"

Great list, but here's two of my favorites not on it.
Jack Nicholson in Five Easy Pieces in the diner wanting toast with his order and the waitress saying they "don't do toast", and Nicholson going through a whole thing about ordering a chicken salad sandwich and holding the chicken, the waitress sarcastically asking, "Where do you want me to hold the chicken", and Nicholson replying, "I want you to hold it between your knees".

Second, in "When Harry Met Sally", in the deli when Meg Ryan does her fake orgasm bit, watched by everybody in the joint, and when she finishes and goes back to her meal, cut to Rob Reiner's mother being asked what she'd like to order, saying, "I'll have what she's having".

Another Jack Nicholson. "As Good As It Gets"
He's the wack-job who brings his own plastic utensils. Helen Hunt's character is the waitress and pissed at him. So she keeps walking past him
"Clippity-clop, clippity-clop ignores me." Is his response.

The Three Stooges- Clam Chowder. I still think about that scene when I make a batch.

Pretty Woman and the snail scene.

A Christmas Story and Dad with the turkey, dogs with the turkey, and finally Christmas dinner at the Chinese restro.

European Vacation and the dinner scene with the young honeymooners having sex at the table and the scene at dinner with their German "relatives"...passes sausage and daughter moans..."I miss Todd!"

High Anxiety where Nurse Diesel and Dr. Montague are having tea and the camera dodges dishes under the table.

Just to name a few.

No dinner table involved, but the lunch scene from "The Breakfast Club" and Bender's dissection of their personalities and foods they eat.

i like your list, there are two good eating related scenes in pulp fiction, can forget about, the diner scene, with the "royale with cheese" conversation, and the robbery. then there is "when harry met sally." but i guess this is dinner scenes not lunch. on a comical note, the dinner scene in hot shots is pretty funny. as is the one in mr. deeds. any of the dinner scenes in "like water for chocolate." i like "sideways" too.

My Favorite Year - when Benjie drags Alan Swan to dinner at his parents apartment and the whole neighborhood shows up

Goodfellas - when the boys go to pick up a shovel and Mama makes them sit down and eat something

Lady and the Tramp - I know it's a cartoon, but the spaghetti scene is still romantic

Does the "Cool Hand Luke" egg eating count as a dinner scene?
