Pasta Question Save to MyRecipes

Postby Silvercliff_46 on Sun Jul 08, 2007 1:35 pm

My dietitian said it was better if I use whole wheat flour for my pasta. She did say this would make a pretty heavy product. I speculated putting a mix of whole wheat and cake flour (little or no gluten) in it. She thought this might work. Did any of you ever try this.

You might save yourself a hassle Dennis if you have any health food stores near you where I'd guess you'll find all sorts of pasta combos. And you could try an online search if that doesn't work, for something specific to your diet needs.
Or...you can experiment!

Mark in northern Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan a health food store is called a "Pasty Shop" serving lite beer ! Image

I'll give it a shot Jean, but do you think if I hand roll it out and cut it, it will be like I did it in a machine? Image

Why not just use Dreamfields pasta.. comes in 6 shapes now, 5 "digestable" carbs per serving, tastes just like real pasta.

They make pastas now out of some other grains that are much better for you even than whole wheat.. spelt, quinoa, buchwheat... this place will have many kinds. Kind of hover over it the first time you cook it... it cooks up a little different.
You will be always victorious if you will never enter into any contest where the issue does not wholly depend upon yourself.

Do you like green pasta ? I put about 20% spinach or swiss chard in my dough.I have some soy flour , but I have not tried it in pasta yet .Grocery store whole wheat pasta is not that good IMO..The ones that have whole wheat as the second or third ingredient are less offensive. Image

Image I've got 2 pasta makers, still too much time and effort for my inferior results. I've been reading the forums and you're looking for diabetic-friendly, low carb foods, just thought I'd offer up a suggestion... I'd rather spend my time making a good sauce.

That's right Dennis, you need a pasta machine to do it right. The best one I've found for the money is Imperia. They are around $45 US and long time performers.

Look for the SP150 and it will crank out tons of pasta. Takes a little elbow grease (they do have a motor for it), but it makes wonderfully thin pasta.

I've had mine for 25 years and its still like brand new. Besides who wants store bought when you can make it yourself and as you know controlling the ingredients you can be very experimental! Have fun!

Ciao,
Dan
Another beautiful day and opportunity to make a difference... Up for the challenge? Ciao!

yoo hoo dennis

my Indian friend and his wife recently make a flat bread that was made entirely of wheat flour and water! and it was pan fried over a hot stove..no oil was added too.

and his wife served it with a nice vegetable curry that was made with yogurt, aubergines, onions and spices. also very healthy.

it was to be eaten as a main meal like lunch or dinner. I only ate 3 slices of this flat bread and its very filling. I'll ask him for the recipe.

one other thing, if you need help on how to use the pasta machine, check it out at my forum(under Back to Basics/Oodles of Noodles). I know I have posted them at C2C too. but at C2C, you need to do a search to find it.

if not, just ask me.. Image

I will do that Gina and thank you.

I cook pretty good Asian after Gina's lessons. That's something for a Cheese-head (almost Yooper)from Northern Wisconsin.

Image but F.Y.I.

Definitions:

Cheese-head - A person from Wisconsin AND is a fan of the Green Bay Packer (American) football team.

Yooper - A lovable person who lives above the bridge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, also a Packer fan. They speak in hushed and fearful tones of the "Trolls" and "Lions" who live below the bridge.
(Da Trolls and Lion's eat little children ya know..........Oh YAH!.........,YAH Hey.)

Northern Cheese-Heads and Yoopers want their own state, called Superior. (Oh Yah!................, Yah Hey!) Image
