What's the dif. between a French and a Dutch oven? Save to MyRecipes

What's the difference between a French oven and a Dutch oven?

I thought it was that the French ones are oval and the Dutch are round, but Le Creuset calls their round ones French Ovens.

Any help?

2 guesses. 1) french ovens are enamel coated?
2) Dutch ovens are just a specific offshoot of the french oven desighn but were made with cast iron using a particular method .

The French ones run away under fire...you must put them on TOP of the heat.

LOL, Richtee.

I was going to say the difference is a couple hundred kilometers at best.
