Dill Save to MyRecipes

Postby lebelage on Sat Aug 25, 2007 11:29 pm

You know, I really don't like it.

Now, I enjoy a dill pickle...
but in general I can't find anything I like fresh dill in.
I hate it with salmon.
I hate it with any fish.

I hate it with veg, with butter, with lemon, with eggs, with salad greens.

Aside from a dill pickle I can find no way to justify the existence of this weed.

Maybe it is a body chemistry thing?

Anyone know of a use that may change my mind?

Shook with the contents of a Bloody Mary?
A small dill prig with lox and cream fresh on a deviled egg?
Green beans sautéed with a little butter and dill? Chervil is better I know, dill is ok if you are out of chervil.
It has to be not much bigger than a sprout or I don’t like it much either. But if you get it small I really like it…different strokes I guess.

Yes chervil I love.

Dill though?

I guess using dill as a sub for chervil seems to me like using Rosie ODonnel as a sub for Jessica Biel.

lol
True, why do you ask if you don't like it?
There are so many other herbs to choose from.

My mother could not cook without dill! There were these amazing dill pickles in brine with no vinegar - heaven in a jar!
With peas and butter.
Swedish meatballs with lots of cardamom and dill
Smoked salmon, cream cheese, and anything!!!
In mashed potatoes - makes them taste so good!
In potato salad, macaroni salad
Egg salad sandwiches
Tuna fish sandwiches
Cucumbers and red onions in red wine vinegar and lots of dill
On top of cottage cheese and tomatoes
Swedish meatballs with lots of cardamom and dill
Mashed potatoes
In an herb salad - so fresh and clean tasting.
Carrots
Deviled eggs - topped with a bit of dill and tobiko
I am weird - I like it with cilantro. I like it with tarragon.
In a shrimp dip, on shrimp, in crab salad, salmon patties.

If I wasn't so full of pork ribs in a cherry ginger BBQ sauce I could think of more. Alas - Swedish meatballs with lots of dill and cardamom.

A sprinkle on a glass of tomato juice, or a bloody mary. Image Image

Amen. Can't stand the stuff. It's the only herb I'll put gloves on for when I'm forced to deal with it -- can't stand to walk around smelling of it. I get all OCD Lady Macbeth, scrubbing my hands relentlessly at the sink and muttering to myself.

If I can get a good sized fresh sprig of it, I lay it on the finished side of a salmon or chicken filet just before plating. Plaster/chars it (just a touch) to the protein, and looks and tastes great.

What about fennel? Do you use fennel greens? Love that stuff...

Love fennel.
Dill is the only, only herb I dislike.
