Edible Dessert Bowl. Save to MyRecipes

Postby madsally on Tue Sep 11, 2007 1:27 am

Does anyone have ideas on how to serve ice cream in an edible bowl besides chocolate or wafer cup. Any ideas would be great. We need to serve it for 500 people, buffet style. It needs to be edible due to the fact that the theme is green and global. No waste! Image
Thanks MS

The very first thing that came into my mind was to make BAKED MERINGUES also called VACHERIN RINGS.
You can make them plain, or add cocoa powder for a chocolate meringue. add instant powdered coffe for a mocha meringue,or cinnamon with a little red food coloring for a cinnamon meringue. Even add some intant coffee , or cinnamon into the chocolate ones to create differnt flavors and colors.
If you fill them with different flavors of Ice Cream you will have a great, extremly colorful dessert display.

Another edible vessel for Ice Cream would be a large Cream-Puff , made big enough to hold a scoop of Ice Cream.

Waffle cones!!! Flavored of course

Bake off cookies on the backs of muffin pans to make cookie bowls.

How about flour tortillas or wontons shaped and fried, sweetened with sugar and cinnamon!

Well why not make ice cream sandwiches?

or.. I love waffle bowls!
the problem you have with using tortillas etc they get soggy very fast the waffle bowls are quite durable so are tuille baskets

alot of these can be purchased from local bakerys!
The real trouble with reality is that there is no background music

liquid nitrogen; with it you can freeze anything to a shell state, or take water flavor it with mint and sugar( a little food coloring green of course and maybe some mint and stem) pour into form and set with gelatin or better yet agar... Or keep it classic with w/Esscoffier Orange Surprise, hollowed out oranges with ice cream

I think the easiest way would be to serve your IceCream in a cone and stick the beforehand filled cones(stored in your walk-in freezer) in a deep hotel pan filled with sugar. You can scoop the Ice-cream ahead and keep them on sheet-pans in your freezer until ready to fill the cones.
